Shortlisted for NSW Premier's Translation Prize

It was a great thrill to be included in the shortlist for the NSW Premier's Translation Prize 2019 along side such an impressive group of literary translators. Heartfelt congratulations to Alison Entrekin, the talented translator from Portuguese, who took out the prize, and to all the other translators included on the shortlist. The awards evening was hosted at the State Library of New South Wales - a superb night and a great privilege to be included.

An added bonus was the opportunity to join fellow literary translator, Penny Hueston, and author Karen Viggers just a few days later on a panel chaired by Suzanne Leal as part of the Sydney Writers' Festival. It was wonderful to hear how successful Karen's work has been, both in English-speaking markets and also in France where it has been enormously popular in its French translation. I very much enjoyed chatting about the ins and outs of literary translation in such esteemed company... the only problem being that one hour simply wasn't long enough to cover all the topics we were keen to address. Next time!
